Meet our Community
The FWR is the water community of the IES family. A Community is a group of IES members and invited external experts brought together around a shared professional interest, goal, or challenge. IES Communities are an integral part of the IES ecosystem, providing thought leadership for their sector, and acting as a forum for members to network, collaborate and shape their sector.
At the IES, we know that our members are the experts. Communities are a key tool for directly engaging with our members and key stakeholders, channelling their expertise into a unified voice, and informing the development of tailored resources. Being member-led, they provide members with the agency to set priorities and develop associated work plans aligned with their needs and interests.

Technical Panels
The work of the FWR is informed by three Technical Panels, who provide expert insights on their focus area and deliver an ambitious work plan of activities aligned with FWR goals.
The members of the Technical Panels are a diverse range of water professionals who provide rich perspectives from across consultancy, industry, public bodies, academia and NGOs to feed into discussions and outputs.
The Technical Panels focus on:
- Water Environment & Ecosystem Services
- Water Resources & Quality
- Sustainable Wastewater Management
Given the broad nature of the water sector, these three Technical Panels not only focus on issues that fall in their remit but also explore the crossovers between the panels and with other specialisms and disciplines. In recognition of the need for a joined-up approach to the issues facing the water sector, collaboration is a fundamental aspect of the work of the Technical Panels. They seek engagement with external organisations where appropriate.
